Ten Women Fall Ill at Karnataka CM’s Meet

Mangaluru: Ten women fell ill due to suspected hypoglycemia and dehydration during a public program attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Dakshina Kannada district on Monday, officials said.

The ‘Ashoka Jana Mana’ event was hosted by local MLA Ashok Kumar Rai in Puttur city, they said. Police said that the incident occurred after a delay in the distribution of food and gifts to thousands of people gathered at the event area.

Health officials said the women were suspected to be suffering from hypoglycemia and dehydration due to crowded and humid weather conditions. While three of them were given fluids intravenously, the other seven were treated as outpatients and discharged.

The event, held to highlight public welfare initiatives, was well attended and led to traffic congestion and confusion when the distribution process was delayed.

The combination of high humidity and inadequate hydration likely led to fainting spells in some participants, doctors said.

Organizers later expressed regret over the incident and assured that such mistakes would be avoided in future programmes. Health officials confirmed that all those affected are in stable condition.
