Dozens of popular apps and websites continue to experience outages due to a major outage at Amazon Web Services, a cloud computing service that powers much of the internet.
Users of apps like Snapchat and WhatsApp, a website that tracks online outages, and major websites including Amazon began reporting service outages shortly after 3 a.m. ET on Monday.
Amazon said it is “investigating increased error rates and delays for multiple AWS services in the US-EAST-1 Region” and is actively working to resolve them.
until 6:35 ET, the issue has been “fully mitigated” and most services are operating normally
However, the company added that there may be some permanent delays.
“Some requests may be restricted while we try to reach the full solution,” the update said.
Hours later, Amazon said it was still working to “resolve any remaining network connectivity issues.”
It is not yet known what caused the outage, but there is no indication that it was caused by a cyber attack.
