The Seattle Seahawks defended their home turf and defeated the Houston Texans 27-19 on “Monday Night Football.”

Seattle improved to 5-2 on the season, while the Texans fell to 2-4, having just finished their bye week.

Sam Darnold and the Seahawks’ offense got off to a great start in the first quarter, scoring two touchdowns on their first three drives, while Zach Charbonnet and Jaxon Smith-Njigba paid his dues once again this season.

Meanwhile, CJ Stroud and the Texans’ offense couldn’t get anything going all night against this dynamic Seahawks defense. The first four drives for Stroud ended in punts, and none involved more than five plays.

Surprisingly, both teams entered the first half with a one-point game, with the Texans managing to make two field goals to make it 14-6 before the second quarter clock reached zero.

Then, in the second half, Darnold’s tackle on Will Anderson Jr. Disaster struck for the Seahawks as he was stripped in the end zone and the ball was recovered by the Texans for a much-needed touchdown. Two field goal attempts failed, but at 17-12 the game was within reach if Houston could find something defensively.

But Darnold led the Seahawks to another field goal in the third quarter and Stroud turned the ball over on downs, causing the game to spiral out of control.

The fourth attempt was at Houston’s own 41-yard line, and Darnold turned down field with a 19-yard pass to Smith-Njigba to get into the red zone. A few plays later, Charbonnet added another short run to make it 27-12.

The Texans’ defense tried to keep their team in the game, including their fourth turnover of the game when Derek Stingley Jr. intercepted Darnold. However, the Texans were unable to score a touchdown as the Seahawks’ defense remained relentless even when they were at Seattle’s 3-yard line.

But Stroud was eventually able to make a trip to the red zone, which resulted in a touchdown and running back Woody Marks to make the score 27-19. But there wasn’t enough time for Houston, as the Seahawks eventually got the job done.

Looking at the box score, Smith-Njigba had another 100-plus yard game, tallying eight catches for 123 yards and the game-leading touchdown. Charbonnet scored twice, while Kenneth Walker III added 66 yards on 17 carries on his birthday.
