Decentralised healthcare system to ensure grassroots access: Veena George

KANNUR

Health Minister Veena George said the government has successfully centralized healthcare delivery through primary health centers and family health centres, ensuring people-friendly and patient-centric treatment across the state. He was inaugurating Janakiya Arogya Kendra in Narath panchayat on Monday.

The minister said family health centers reflect the government’s commitment to providing treatment at the grassroots level. “The government spends ₹ 1,500 crore annually on free treatment. Around 42.5 lakh families are eligible for treatment assistance of up to ₹ 5 lakh annually,” he added.

Efforts are ongoing to expand health insurance coverage to those excluded from existing plans, Ms. George said. Under the decentralized model, primary health centers and family health centers provide primary care, taluk hospitals offer specialized treatments and district hospitals provide super specialty services.
