French referendum could settle pension reform: Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron said a referendum was possible to resolve the debate on pension reform.
Pension reform was passed by parliament without a vote in 2023.
It was suspended last week by Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu in order to gain the support of the Socialist Party and thus avoid a vote of confidence.
Lecornu later told the National Assembly: “The discussion should take place with the French people either through a referendum during the presidential election, when everyone will have the opportunity to hear their social proposals on this issue, or perhaps even before that if a plan emerges from discussions with the social partners.”
