Police will continue searching for body in infamous unsolved case of Indigenous child murdered in 1990
NSW homicide detectives investigating the 1990 murder of Bowraville’s Colleen Walker-Craig launched a two-day search to find her remains.
Colleen was just 16 when she was last seen in Bowraville in September 1990.
His family reported him missing and his heavy clothing was later found in the Nambucca River.
Although Colleen’s body was never found, the coroner in NSW found she was dead and likely murdered. He was one of three Indigenous children killed over a five-month period in 1990.
The remains of two of the children, Colleen’s cousin Evelyn Greenup, 4, and Clinton Speedy-Duroux, 16, were discovered within a few months.
The three alleged murders were investigated separately before being linked to the homicide unit.
Detectives returned to Bowraville a year ago to continue the search for Colleen.
Strike force investigators, with assistance from Maritime Area Command, will begin dowsing portions of the Nambucca River in both Bowraville and Macksville today and tomorrow, according to a police statement Friday.
A $1 million reward remains in effect for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Colleen’s murder, as well as information leading to the discovery and recovery of Colleen’s remains.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
important events
Good morning, it’s Friday. Nick Visser I’m here to take over the blog. Let’s get to the point.
The workplace court system is being inundated with an “unsustainable” number of unfair dismissal claims, as employers blame workers for trying to win pay rather than resolve complaints.
Citing figures from the Fair Work Commission, Finnish Review reports The number of unfair dismissal claims this morning is 27% higher than five years ago.
“This is unsustainable under our current operational, performance and financing structure,” commission chairman Judge Adam Hatcher said at an industry event earlier this month.
Employers say this increase is driven by employment lawyers using broad unfair dismissal claims to get payments from companies through the court system rather than through the courts.
Employers want the government to reform the law to reduce the number of nuisance claims.

Welcome
Good morning and welcome to our live news blog. I Martin Farrer with the best night stories and then it will be Nick Visser with the main action.
NSW police are resuming their search today in a notorious unsolved murder investigation: they will comb the Nambucca River at Bowraville for the remains of Colleen Walker-Craig, one of three Indigenous children killed over a five-month period in 1990.
Again today: The workplace court system is being flooded with an “unsustainable” number of unfair dismissal claims, as employers blame workers for trying to win pay rather than resolving complaints, according to reports.
And we’ll probably hear more in the political wrangling over Labour’s proposed new environmental laws.
