Newly released police body camera footage captured the moment Jay Cutler was arrested for drunken driving and firearm possession in October 2024.
Images obtained by TMZIt started when a police officer approached Cutler in another vehicle near the scene of the fender bender.
The former NFL quarterback then calmly handed over his identification when the officer approached, then stood silently when asked to identify his vehicle and present his driver’s license and registration.
As Cutler began to retrieve the documents, the driver of the other car began explaining the accident to the officer and placing the blame squarely on Cutler.
The situation appeared to be under control until the officer noticed the odor of alcohol on Cutler and questioned him about how much he had drunk.
Cutler initially denied drinking any alcohol before admitting he drank “a little bit.” However, when asked to submit to a field sobriety test, he flatly refused, prompting the officer to immediately handcuff him.

After handcuffing Cutler, who showed no signs of resistance, the officer conducted a routine search of his body before escorting him to a patrol car and placing him in the backseat.
Although not shown in the footage, Cutler was taken to the hospital where his blood was taken to determine his alcohol level.
The result, as one source explained, was a blood alcohol content percentage of 0.23; this is three times the legal limit of 0.08.
After the hospital, Cutler was taken to the Williamson County jail, where he was charged and later released after posting $5,000 bail.

While Cutler was initially charged with drunken driving and firearm possession, he reached a plea deal with prosecutors in August.
He was later fined only $350, sentenced to four days in jail, and placed on one year of probation; This may lead to additional penalties if violated.
Cutler spent only two and a half days in jail before being released for unclear reasons.
However, he still must complete a DUI safety course and will not be able to drive in Tennessee next year because his license has been revoked during that time.
The former NFL star has yet to publicly address the incident and his lawyer has not commented on the matter.

From a legal standpoint, Cutler may also face heavy financial losses as he is being sued by one of the drivers he recruited behind him. TMZ.
A man named Perry Lee filed a lawsuit against the former Chicago Bears star in September, accusing the former football player of being “at fault for the collision.”
In the court filing, Lee detailed his reasons for blaming the former NFL star for the incident; one of which was him standing behind Cutler’s car.

According to Lee’s attorneys, John Morgan and Sydney Pierce, the injuries he sustained from the incident “cause him pain on a daily basis and diminish his quality of life.”
While it’s unclear how much compensation Lee is seeking, it’s likely to be a significant amount, as he claims he was left with mounting medical bills, physical and mental pain, and diminished quality of life after the incident.
