Donald Trump unveils shameless name for new ballroom amid outrage over East Wing demolition

President Donald Trump plans to name the $300 million ballroom after himself after demolishing the entire East Wing of the White House.

Officials are referring to the majestic building as the ‘President Donald J. Trump Ballroom,’ according to ABC News. Trump plans to keep the name when the building is finished.

Trump has not publicly said what he plans to call the ballroom. The president made his career in New York real estate by slapping his name on the sides of skyscrapers.

The White House stated that the ballroom would be completed before Trump leaves office in January 2029, but did not provide a specific timeline. Experts say Trump’s goal is ambitious.

Asked by ABC News Chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce if he had a name for the ballroom, Trump said with a smile: “I’m not going to get into that now.”

The White House claims to have raised $350 million for the ballroom project, and estimates suggest it will cost more than the original $300 million budget.

A White House official said Trump ‘has received such positive and overwhelming support for the ballroom that he continues to receive donations.’

Trump has repeatedly claimed that he plans to donate millions of his own dollars to the construction of the ballroom. Private donors of the project include executives of the world’s leading technology companies such as Google, Meta, Amazon and Microsoft.

Trump had initially claimed that the 83-year-old building would remain untouched in the construction of the privately financed $250 million ballroom.

But when a digger was photographed tearing through the walls of the historic building on Monday, alarm bells began to ring.

First Lady Melania Trump, meanwhile, has remained mum about the demolition, even though all of her staff’s offices are in the East Wing.

Public White House tours are now suspended during the construction of the ballroom.

The president held up pictures of the opulent ballroom during the meeting, and a model of what the White House complex would look like when the new wing was completed sat on the table.

“To do this properly, we had to tear down the existing structure,” the president said Wednesday in the Oval Office as he blasted photos released of the demolition.

The White House was initially cautious about what the plans were for the East Wing, offering suggestions that part of the structure would remain intact.

Announcing the ballroom earlier this year, Trump claimed: ‘It will not interfere with the existing building. ‘It will be close to it but not touching it and will fully respect the existing building, which I am the biggest fan of.’

Traditionally, past presidents do not name monuments or structures inside or outside the White House after themselves, especially while in office.

After leaving office, President Harry S. Truman commissioned an extensive reconstruction of the White House, including a balcony named in his honor.

“Any announcements made on behalf of the ballroom will come directly from President Trump himself and not through unnamed or unnamed sources,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle told the Daily Mail.
