‘Perilous’ – West Ham make worst start in 52 years

West Ham’s miserable Premier League campaign continued with defeat to Leeds on Friday, ensuring their worst start to the season for 52 years.
The result was their third consecutive defeat under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who has been winless since replacing Graham Potter in September.
The Hammers, who sit 19th in the table, have recorded just one win this season and ironically that win came against Nottingham Forest, with Nuno in charge at the City Ground.
A dismal return of just four points overall represents West Ham’s worst performance at this stage of their league campaign; The club repeated the same score in the second league, where they finished last in 1932-33 and 1973-74.
Nuno, who got a point in his first game against Everton, is struggling to find answers to his questions after scoring a point in his first game against Everton, who is tasked with ensuring that West Ham do not suffer relegation, which would leave them outside the top tier for the first time since 2011-12.
The Portuguese said, “Unfortunately, there are many problems in our club. It is not up to us to hide behind the problems. Everyone needs to be alive, do much more and be in the right position.”
“We weren’t dealing with our defensive situations and I felt we needed a striker to hold the ball, so maybe that’s not the best thing for me.
“Such mistakes are unacceptable in the Premier League.”
Nuno, who also became the first West Ham manager to fail to win his first four Premier League games since Manuel Pellegrini in September 2018, added: “There is quality there, there is time but if we don’t change nothing will happen.
“We have to change our attitude, we have to change the way we approach things, we have to dedicate ourselves better, we have to prepare better, we have to work harder.
“Everything, that’s the truth. We don’t expect things to change on their own. If we don’t change things quickly, it could be a mistake to realize we have time.”
