Man, 50, charged after police find fake law enforcement badges and IDs, replica firearms at Double Bay home in Sydney
Police uncovered what they claimed were fake police badges and replica firearms during a raid at a property in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
A Double Bay man has been arrested and will appear in court on Saturday; police alleged he was in possession of multiple fake law enforcement badges and ID cards.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) began investigating the man after a member of the public handed in his federal police badge and ID at Bondi Police Station last month.
Police claimed that small traces of cocaine were found on the ID card.
Officers executed a search warrant at the 50-year-old’s Double Bay property on Friday, where hats and shirts bearing the AFP emblem were allegedly found.
AFP claims to have found fake law enforcement badges and IDs from other agencies, replica firearms, gel explosives, as well as steroids and 14 grams of cocaine.
The man was charged with possession of prohibited firearms in relation to gel blasters and replica firearms.
He is also charged with impersonating a Commonwealth public servant and supplying drugs.
“Falsely representing yourself as any law enforcement or Commonwealth official poses a real danger to public safety,” AFP Detective Inspector Peter Fogarty said.
“This type of behavior is extremely worrying and if anyone has information that a police ID has been used fraudulently please contact your local police station.”
