Nobody does it better? Young Brits say Roger Moore is best James Bond but older fans opt for Sean Connery – while Daniel Craig is the spy left in the cold

This was the theme song to his iconic appearance in the 1977 hit film The Spy Who Loved Me.

And it seems young Brits truly believe that among the great actors who have played James Bond, No One Can Do It Better Than Roger Moore.

The legendary actor, who played the sweet spy seven times between 1973 and 1985, is the most loved actor among the 18-28 age group.

Twenty-two percent of Gen Z viewers said he was their favorite action character of all time, while 19 percent listed Sean Connery as their favorite and only three percent preferred the newest 007, Daniel Craig.

The tough-talking Connery’s 21-year stint as Bond until 1983, when he starred in seven films including From Russia with Love and Goldfinger, resulted in the Scot gaining huge popularity with older audiences.

34 percent of those aged 55 and over identified the late star as their favorite action hero of all time.

A survey of TV viewers by Freeview channel Great Action showed that 25 per cent of viewers aged 29 to 54 rated it this way.

Even though Daniel Craig has been the face of James Bond since 2006, he doesn’t seem to have much of an impact on younger audiences.

The Skyfall star is five times more likely to be chosen as favorite action character by people over 55 than Gen Z; However, only 11 percent of those aged 29 to 43 agree with this view.

Craig appeared as Bond for the fifth and final time in 2021’s No Time To Die.

However, four years later, the new 007 has not yet been announced, as rumors continue to circulate about the identity of the next incumbent.

While it was reported that Spider-Man star Tom Holland was excluded from the cast last week, big names such as Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson came to the fore.

The 26th film in the series is scheduled to go into production next April at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

Steven Knight, who created Peaky Blinders, will be tasked with writing the story and director Denis Villeneuve is said to be determined to cast an unknown Brit in the role of Bond.

The 57-year-old director was trusted to find the ideal actor to take the franchise forward.

He will focus on the task after completing production on Dune: Chapter Three, according to Deadline, which reports that the filmmaker is looking for a ‘new face’ for the role.

It was also revealed that the next Bond would be male and British, as written by creator Ian Fleming.

However, despite years of comments and speculation about the future of the series, the new Bond will not be announced until 2026.

Meanwhile, earlier this year Taron Egerton rejected suggestions he could play Bond, insisting he was too “messy” for the role.

The 35-year-old actor has been suggested to replace Daniel Craig as 007, but Egerton claimed there were “lots of cool, young actors” better suited to the role.

When asked about the possibility of playing Bond, he told Collider: ‘I don’t think I’m a good choice for it. I think I’m too messy for that.

‘I guess I’m not; I really love James Bond and especially Daniel Craig’s tenure.

‘But I don’t think I would be good at it, and I think there are a lot of cool, young actors who would be great for it. I think it would probably be wasted on me.’
