Dapper stranger in Paris crown jewels heist photo sparks online buzz

A photo of a man stepping outside the Louvre Museum in Paris during an investigation into the recent brazen crown jewel heist at the famed museum has gone viral.
The mysterious man, wearing a three-piece suit, a dark jacket and a gold vest, with a fedora and an umbrella used as a walking stick, was abuzz on social media comparing himself to Inspector Clouseau in “The Pink Panther” and Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot.
While many believed that the dashing man was the lead investigator on the case, some even suggested that his dapper appearance pointed to a dapper criminal somehow involved in the robbery.

A third wrote: “The detective working on the Louvre Jewel robbery is the man in the fedora. I wonder if the French do everything better.”
But the Associated Press photographer who captured the intriguing shot last Sunday claimed he had no reason to believe the man had anything to do with the Louvre investigation, but rather that he was just someone who walked into the frame.
Photographer Thibault Camus told the outlet he believed the man added a bit of Parisian flair. je ne sais quoi “I don’t know what happened” — to your photos.

Camus says, “He appeared before me, I saw him, I took his photograph.” “It’s gone and gone.”
Paris officials also decided to add a bit of French intrigue to the mystery when the AP asked if they could identify the man.
The Paris prosecutor’s office responded: “We would prefer to keep the mystery alive ;)”

Last Sunday morning, four masked criminals stole several priceless pieces from the Louvre’s jewelery collection after breaking into a gallery shortly after the museum opened.
