Inside Ryan Gosling’s new life in Hampstead: Hollywood star has diners at restaurants and cafes doing double-takes and mothers swooning at the school gates after fleeing Trump’s US

Ryan Gosling’s arrival in Hampstead has caused mums to faint at the school gates and diners to do a double-take at their meal.
Yesterday, the Mail on Sunday appeared La La Land star, 44, moves out of Trump’s US and buys a house in London with his wife Eva Mendes and daughters Esmerelda (11) and Amada Lee (9).
Houses don’t come cheap in the affluent North London area they now call home, with the average price of a house in Hampstead set at £1,533,972, flats at £996,703 and semi-detached properties at £4,224,100 in 2024.
But the Hollywood hunk isn’t the only famous actor residing in London’s exclusive area; They include the likes of Harry Styles, Jude Law, Emma Thompson and even Ricky Gervais, who lives in a £14.5 million bunker.
But despite being used to stars being in their presence, the Bladerunner actor’s good looks are turning locals’ heads, especially during his recent pit stop at a local Iranian restaurant.
In a post on Instagram, Hana Restaurant stated that it was a “true honor” for both the owner and his son to “welcome” and “serve” this heartthrob and his family.
“Their warmth, kindness and appreciation for our Persian cuisine made these evenings unforgettable,” the restaurant wrote.
Ryan Gosling’s good looks are turning the heads of the people of Hampstead, especially during a recent stop at a local Persian restaurant.
Ryan and his wife, Eva Mendes, were living in Notting Hill while filming Project Hail Mary in 2024.
‘What made this even more special was that Hana respected the privacy of our guests, allowing the family to relax comfortably and enjoy the dining experience.
‘Moments like this remind us why hospitality is at the heart of everything we do.’
But it wasn’t just the heads of restaurant patrons who were stunned – the heartthrob’s visit to the local school to collect his children also left the Hampstead mum fainting
Of his most recent visit, one Hampstead resident said: ‘Yes, it’s a pleasure to chat to everyone here and at the school gates – such a nice guy.
‘And everyone can’t stop talking about how good he looks, mums are practically drooling over him.’
Gosling’s arrival caused great excitement in the region; One person revealed on Instagram’s Threads that the actor held a door open for them: ‘Today’s unexpected adventure is Ryan Gosling holding the door open for me at a café in West Hampstead. What a kind man!… Quite unexpected indeed!’
As of 2024, Gosling’s net worth was £55 million, while his movie star wife’s net worth was around £15,000,000.
Former American actress Ms. Mendes, 51, met Canadian-born Gosling on the set of the 2012 thriller Place Beyond The Pines and they married in 2022. Ms. Mendes retired from acting around the time her first daughter was born.
Gosling is in London to film the upcoming Star Wars movie Starfighter but is also believed to have moved his family from the US to escape the ‘unstable’ political environment.
Other celebrities known as ‘Donald Dash’ who moved to the UK when President Trump took office include former chat show host Ellen DeGeneres, who lives in the Cotswolds with her wife Portia de Rossi, and Gosling’s Barbie co-star America Ferrera has reportedly moved to south-west London.
However, its closer neighbors include the likes of mega-pop star Harry Styles, who is believed to own four properties on the same exclusive Hampstead street.
It comes as neighbors fight over fears the £30million Hampstead mega-mansion will block sunlight from their home, leaving them fighting for the ‘right to light’.
The 31-year-old singer has begun renovating her future home in one of London’s wealthiest neighbourhoods, and the project won’t be completed until late 2027.
44-year-old Ryan Gosling moved to Hampstead with his wife Eva Mendes and their two children.
It combines two luxury homes on a private estate in the north of the city into one jaw-dropping space, complete with four bedrooms, gym, cinema, art gallery and staff quarters.
Shortly after, he reportedly purchased another sprawling property in the same area, his fourth home on the same street.
But some of the pop stars’ wealthy new neighbors fear the former One Direction singer’s extensive retreat in the city will be ‘challenging’.
Although others say it’s ‘always a pity to live next to a construction site’.
A citizen told Telegram: ‘It’s always sad to live next to a construction site. This road wasn’t like this before. Now all the houses are constantly being bought and rebuilt by millionaires.
‘There’s another house down the road, which I’m sure will be bought and renovated like the others.
‘Sadly there is less community between neighbors than there has been since people moved away from the area.’
Although they expressed their concerns, no new formal complaints were made about the property. The Daily Mail has contacted Harry’s representatives for comment.
And Styles isn’t the only celebrity on Gosling’s block; British comedian Ricky Gervais says his £14.5million Hampstead house is home.
Gervais, worth an estimated £120 million, bought the mansion in March 2024 and has previously revealed that a key factor behind the move was his desire to build a larger garden, namely a tennis court.
But the comedian, 63, admitted the sprawling mansion was unlikely to be his “forever home” after his long-term partner Jane Fallon, 63, expressed concerns about the couple living there in their eighties.
‘But I wasn’t dead and I wanted a tennis court, so we had to move to a bigger house with a bigger garden so we could get a tennis court and I thought that was great, that’s perfect. It’s not finished yet but I love it.
‘But the other day Jane said, ‘We can’t live here when we’re 80.’ So it’s like a clock ticking. ‘There are all these stairs,’ he said. That’s why I’m moving when I’m 80.’
He added: ‘But I said, let’s not move, let’s move in with loads of doctors, nurses and security guards.
Ricky said: ‘I thought the last house was the house I would die in.
‘I might have a team living inside. A driver, someone I could play table tennis with, so that would be better
‘I’m going 80 again because of all this nonsense. I don’t want to think about it. Jane did most of it anyway.’
However, Gosling’s latest move to London is not his first as both he and his family were living in Notting Hill while filming Project Hail Mary.
They returned briefly to California before settling in Hampstead; it’s an area they’ve apparently been investigating for a while after they were reportedly seen looking for a home in 2022.
