Heavy congestion near major ponds expected, check key routes to avoid, diversions, metro instructions here

Ahead of Chhath Puja celebrations, Delhi Traffic police have issued a warning as heavy traffic congestion is expected near major ponds and roads in the national capital. In its advisory, the Delhi traffic police said that special traffic arrangements have been made as Chhath Puja 2025 will be celebrated across Delhi from the afternoon of October 27 to the morning of October 28.
Normal traffic flow is likely to be affected and heavy traffic congestion is expected on roads adjacent to major Chhath Puja ponds in East, Central/North, South/Southeast, Northwest/Outer and West Delhi, Delhi Traffic police said.
Heavy traffic congestion is expected on MB Road, Kalindi Kunj Khadar Road, Agra Canal Road and Road No. 13. Diversions in Bhajanpura district, Gandhi Nagar district and Khajuri Khas district, passengers are advised to plan their trip accordingly.
Routes to avoid
- stretches out MB Road (Lal Kuan to Tughlakabad Extension), Khadar Kalindi Kunj Road, Agar Canal Road and Road No. 13
- Inside Bhanjanpur district, Commercial vehicles will not be allowed on GT Road from Shastri Park towards Yudhishthhir Setu between 17.00-19.00 on 27 October and 05.00-07.00 on 28 October 2025.
- Inside Gandhi Nagar district, Shantivan Loop and Laxmi Nagar to Kailash Nagar Road will remain closed between 17.00-18.00 on 27 October and 05.00-07.00 on 28 October 2025 and traffic will be diverted via Disused Canal Road.
- Inside Khajuri Khas district, Traffic towards Sonia Vihar will be diverted from Nanaksar to Old Wazirabad Road and vehicles coming from Sonia Vihar Border will be diverted towards Sabhapur Village from MCD Toll.
Delhi Traffic police has also issued instructions to the general public along with recommendations regarding road closures.
- There are no restrictions at New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, Nizamuddin Railway Station and ISBT. But leave in advance and allow extra time for possible delays.
- People are asked to use public transport such as Delhi Metro to help reduce traffic congestion
- Vehicles should only be parked in designated car parks, and roadside parking should be avoided as it obstructs traffic flow.
- Any unidentified object or suspicious person should be reported immediately to the nearest police personnel.
- Plan your trip in advance to avoid inconvenience
