Ashes 2025-26: England’s best chance to win in Australia in 15 years – Finn

Former England bowler Steven Finn believes the team has the best chance of winning the Ashes tour since their last series victory in 2010-11.
Finn played on that tour but England have failed to win a Test in their last three trips to Australia, with their last series win coming at home in 2015.
However, the team has a different mentality under captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum, who will be appointed in 2022.
“I think this is England’s best chance of winning the Ashes in 15 years.” [in Australia]Finn told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport: “I don’t think they will allow themselves to be bullied like they have been in the last few series where England have sent teams there. I’m pretty optimistic about England’s chances.”
In 2010, England secured the Ashes by winning the fourth Test by an innings and 157 runs and then added the fifth Test to seal a 3-1 series victory.
“Despite all the sniping and what happened before the series, [the Australian public] Respect the people who try hard, puff their chests out and don’t get pushed away when the Aussies puff up on them,” Finn added.
“I don’t think the England team will go down timidly or docilely, and I think the Australian people will respect that.
“The tide turned against Australia in 2010-11 – I think [on] On the morning of the second day of the fourth Test, when we bowled out Australia for 98. We were miles ahead of the game.
“The Australians came into their own and we felt like everyone on the field was supporting us. Walking down the street you felt people stopping you and saying, ‘We respect the way you play cricket and we love it.’
“That’s England’s job – to do it early enough to turn the tide of the series towards Australia.”
