Shreyas Iyer out of ICU after ruptured spleen injury; condition stable

“He has been moved out of the ICU and it may take a few more days for him to be discharged,” PTI quoted an unnamed BCCI source as saying.
Iyer suffered the injury while trying to catch Alex Carey on the run to remove him from Harshit Rana’s bowling. Although he initially left the field with the support of a physiotherapist, his condition later deteriorated as his vital signs dropped and he had to be rushed to hospital.
Medical tests revealed internal bleeding due to a ruptured spleen, following which Iyer was admitted to the intensive care unit for close observation.
Speaking about Iyer’s health ahead of the first T20I in Canberra, India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav said: “When we saw it from outside, it looked like a normal situation. But once we got inside, doctors realized the severity of the injury. He was taken to a specialist immediately. We spoke to him later – his voice was fine, which reassured us. It was an unfortunate incident, something that rarely happens. But sometimes rare things are rare. talents.”
BCCI’s head of medical services, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala praised the medical team on the field for their quick response, which helped prevent a more serious outcome. “God is with him. He is recovering, doctors are taking good care of him and BCCI fully supports his recovery,” Suryakumar added. Meanwhile, Iyer’s family members are expected to fly to Sydney soon to be with him as he continues his recovery.
