Shreyas Iyer Heals, Family Holds Ground

In a worrying moment during the third ODI between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, India’s middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious internal injury while diving to complete the catch. The incident, which occurred on the 33rd, led to immediate medical attention and his admission to hospital in Sydney, where he was kept under observation.
Initial reports suggested that Iyer’s family would fly to Sydney to be by his side. However, in a new update, his father Santosh Iyer spoke privately and revealed that the family has decided not to travel.
“BCCI is monitoring his injury and he is on the road to recovery. The best doctor in Sydney is treating him. He is likely to be discharged by the end of the week and may be discharged before that. He will be back soon as he is not part of the T20I squad,” Santosh Iyer told this correspondent. “Contrary to earlier reports, we are not going to Sydney.”
The injury, reported to be a ruptured spleen, ruled Iyer out of the remainder of the tour. Although his condition is stable and he is responding well to treatment, the nature of the injury requires careful monitoring. BCCI’s medical team is collaborating with experts in Sydney to ensure a safe and timely recovery.
Iyer’s absence from the T20I squad means he does not need to remain in the next leg of the series. After discharge, he is expected to return to India for further rest and rehabilitation.
The cricket community rallied around the stylish right-hander, sending messages of support and wishing him a speedy recovery. Known for his courage and talent, Iyer’s return will be eagerly awaited not only for his batting but also for the leadership and energy he brings to the team.
For now, the focus is on his health and the hope is that he will be back on the field stronger than ever soon.
