STORY: Nvidia will buy a 2.9% stake in Nokia for $1 billion, the Finnish telecom equipment maker said Tuesday; Shares hit their highest level in nearly a decade after a deal focused on artificial intelligence and data centers. The companies plan to collaborate on AI networking solutions and may integrate Nokia’s data center communications products with Nvidia’s AI infrastructure.“Nokia has traditionally been telecom equipment, but they want to move from pure telecom to a more AI-driven infrastructure through data center and cloud networking, this is really an endorsement from Nvidia that Nokia can do this,” Diton said.“Nvidia, on the other hand, is all about AI infrastructure and chips, and they want to be more involved on the other side of telecom, the network side, and ultimately bring AI-powered wireless networks to 5G and in the future to 6G,” he added.
