Human remains found after police charge man with murder
Queensland Police have found what are believed to be human remains during an investigation into the disappearance of 48-year-old Paul Woods from Hampton.
The discovery was made during a search of a property in Cressbrook Creek, but the remains have not yet been formally identified.
A 45-year-old man from Cressbrook Creek has been charged with murder and misconduct by tampering with a dead body.
He appeared at Southport Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday, a week before the remains were discovered.
The men knew each other, but the exact nature of their relationship was unclear, authorities said.
Police set up two crime scenes, one at a property on Hampton Rd, south of Crows Nest, and the other at a Cressbrook Creek address.
Acting Detective Inspector Ryan Harmer, of the Darling Downs Regional Crime Group, said the investigation began after Mr Woods was reported missing from his home in Hampton on October 14.
“We spoke with witnesses who led us to believe this was a murder investigation,” he said last week.
He urged anyone with information about Mr Woods’ movements on October 5 or 6, particularly his unregistered blue-and-white Yamaha 450 motorcycle, to come forward.
“We believe Paul rode that motorcycle on the afternoon of the 5th or possibly around the 6th,” he said.
“We are looking for that motorcycle and anyone who may have information.”
