‘No wonder his good friend in New Delhi does not want to hug him’: Congress dig at PM Modi after Trump repeats India-Pakistan ceasefire claim

The Congress on Wednesday (October 29, 2025) came down hard on Prime Minister Narendra Modi after US President Donald Trump repeated his claim that he stopped the conflict between India and Pakistan using trade, saying “no wonder the American leader’s close friend in New Delhi does not want to hug him anymore”.

Jairam Ramesh, the Congress’s secretary general for communications, shared a video clip of Mr. Trump’s speeches in Japan on X (formerly Twitter), where he reiterated his claim that he had stopped the India-Pakistan military conflict using trade.

Ramesh said on channel

“No wonder his close friend in New Delhi doesn’t want to hug him anymore,” the Congress leader said.

Mr. Trump repeated his claim that he had stopped the conflict between India and Pakistan in his speech to world leaders at the United Nations last month.

India has consistently maintained that an agreement to cease hostilities with Pakistan was reached following direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of the two armies.
