Chittoor police urge students to exercise caution on social media

Chittoor district police on Wednesday organized a student awareness program at PVKN Government College here, focusing on cyber crimes, women’s safety, drug abuse and road safety. Police said the initiative was part of a district-wide campaign to sensitize youth and students about cyber fraud.
Deputy SP (Chittoor) T. Sainath and City Inspector M. Maheshwar along with Crime Inspector Umamaheshwar Rao addressed around 200 students and faculty members. Police officials appealed to students to avoid drug use, adopt healthy lifestyles, be careful on social media and immediately report suspicious calls or contacts to 1930. Speakers explained the “Digital Arrest” scam, in which fraudsters impersonate cyber police to extort money.
Police also introduced ‘Shakti’ mobile app for emergency assistance to women and emphasized personal responsibility for road safety and social welfare. Anti-Corruption Bureau officials and faculty members of PVKN college were also present.
