Centurion Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur broke the Australian monopoly in knockouts by scoring a record-breaking 167 runs in the semi-final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. With a mammoth target of 339 runs, the pressure led to the blue team losing key openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma early. Harmanpreet and Jemimah put on a great partnership in the 10th over which helped India recover from the defeat.
Harmanpreet and Jemimah played the game sensibly knowing the delays and kept changing the innings. During this time, their powerful partnership scored more than 150 runs, setting another record for knockouts in the tournament’s history, which had only been achieved five times before.
It is noteworthy that the previous five records were held by Australians Ellyse Perry and Phoebe Litchfield with 155 runs in the semi-final match. The 167-run match between Harmanpreet and Jemimah had set a record as it became the highest in a World Cup match against Australia, surpassing the earlier 157-run partnership between Mithali Raj and Punam Raut in 2017.
