CBI Continues Second Day of Probe at Karur Stampede Site

– Karur: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials began the second day of investigation at the stampede site at Veluchamipuram in Karur on Saturday. A team of 10 CBI officials used a 3D laser scanner device to carry out surveying and mapping work for the second consecutive day.

On Friday, the team measured a 300-meter area in the area using the same 3D laser scanning technology. A high-level CBI team of six officers returned to Karur on Friday to intensify the ongoing investigation into the tragic stampede that killed 41 people during a public meeting of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief Vijay.

The stampede took place on October 27 during a public event in Veluchamipuram, which was attended by Vijay. Following the incident, CBI officials conducted a two-day initial investigation from October 17 but temporarily returned to their stations on October 19 ahead of the Deepavali festival.

Since October 21, Inspector Manokaran and a head constable have been on duty at the Public Works Department (PWD) Guest House in Karur to continue translation and documentation work on the case. With the return of the six-member senior team, the investigation has entered its second phase and sources say it will be further intensified in the coming days.

Meanwhile, TVK Chairman Vijay announced that a Special General Council Meeting will be held on November 5 at 10 am at Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Hotel. The meeting aims to decide on the party’s future activities after the Karur stampede.

In his statement, Vijay said, “As the situation on the ground gives us great courage, we must now take our next step more carefully, with deliberation and foresight. In this context, we must discuss the next phase of the party’s future programs and activities. Therefore, we have decided to hold a special general assembly meeting to take decisions on these issues.” he said.
