Dodgers survive elimination after Tyler Glasnow’s late-game brilliance

The reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers entered Friday night with just one loss from elimination.
But a bold move to insert Sunday’s anticipated starter Tyler Glasnow into the final frame of the ninth inning helped the Dodgers stay alive.
Glasnow entered Friday’s home game with one Toronto Blue Jays runner at second base and another at third base. It took just three innings for Glasnow to strike out three to close out the game and force a Game 7.

Two of those outs came after the Dodgers turned a potential game-tying hit into a dramatic, game-ending double play.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts decided to change the lineup again for Game 6.

Shortstop Mookie Betts, who moved from second to third in Wednesday’s Game 5 loss, dropped to the cleanup spot against Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman on Friday.

Betts hadn’t fallen as low as fourth since the final game of the 2017 American League Division Series against Houston. Game 5 was Betts’ first start since 2021, but he was unable to finish in the top two spots on Los Angeles’ roster.

Betts entered Game 6 going just 3-for-23 with no RBIs or extra-base hits in the World Series, but he made the most of his new spot in the batting order by hitting a two-run single in the third inning.
Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto wasn’t as sharp as his four-hitter in Game 2, the first complete game of the World Series in a decade. He lasted six innings and allowed only a third-inning RBI single by George Springer, who returned after missing two games with an injury to his right side.
After the game, Roberts explained his decision to use Glasnow out of relief.
“It’s do or die. You have to leave it all out there and pick up all the pieces,” Roberts told FOX Sports. “Roki (Sasaki) wasn’t that smart. I immediately felt that Glasnow had the ability to hit and miss and I just wanted to bet on him.”
Max Scherzer will start Game 7 for the Blue Jays on Saturday night. He also started Game 7 of the last World Series and got a no-decision when Washington won the 2019 title against Houston.

The Dodgers are aiming to become the first team to win consecutive championships since the New York Yankees won three in a row from 1998 to 2000. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays hope to end their championship drought by capturing their first World Series title since 1993.
The 7th match will be broadcast on FOX at 20.00 on Saturday.
