Tesco unveils ‘best ever’ Christmas meal – costs £64 | UK | News

The “most iconic meal” Tesco has ever created will be available to order online from Tuesday 4 November for the festive season. Innovative chefs at the supermarket giant spent five months perfecting restaurant-quality Wellington steak that’s easy to cook at home.
Wrapped in an herb crepe with a layer of mushroom, shallow and Madeira wine duxelles, then covered in puff pastry, the ripe fillet is designed to be a showy stopper for any occasion.
This is timely, as research shows that 57% of people who like to eat out at restaurants are going there less often compared to last year.
They cite cost, the preference to eat in the comfort of their own homes, and the ability to prepare better meals themselves as the main reasons for this decline.
And nearly 30% of Brits (this rises to around 60% in the 25 to 34 age group) admit they try to cook supermarket meals from scratch and sell them as their own.
Latest sales figures reveal demand for the Tesco Finest Chef’s Collection range increased by almost 200 per cent last Christmas compared to the previous year.
Tesco executive chef Jamie Robinson said: “As we look ahead to Christmas 2025, we wanted an absolute classic centrepiece that we know our customers love, that could really push the boundaries of what is possible.
“We started working on Wellington beef in June and July last year and by last October we had a product we were happy with and could work with our partners for this Christmas.”
Master Chef, who started his cooking career in restaurants under the guidance of Marco Pierre White and worked with Jamie Oliver to improve the quality of school meals, added that due to the popularity of the Tesco Finest Chef’s Collection, which has so far only been available for sale at Christmas, its 12 products will be stocked in 160 stores throughout the year.
“I am passionate about creating a restaurant-quality experience that people can enjoy at home with their loved ones without the additional expense of going out,” Jamie said.
Breige Donaghy, director of product development and innovation at Tesco, added: “We know life is busy but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on great meals at home.
“That’s why our chefs created the Chef Collection, a series of dishes inspired by restaurant menus and packed with clever techniques that make it super easy to cook something special.”
Serving four people, the beef Wellington is priced from £64.90 to £77.33, with other highlights from the Festive Food to Order range including the 30-day-aged beef tomahawk steak, priced from £17 to £27, and the salted banoffee cascading star for £13 (all prices quoted with Clubcard).
