The video has now gone viral on social media.
Who is Sub-Inspector Dhananjay Singh?
Dhananjay Singh is posted at Paper Mill colony under Mahanagar Police Station. Resident of Neetapuri Colony. He has now been arrested after demanding a bribe from a rape suspect. It currently falls under Article 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
It was the accused Prateek Gupta who approached the ACO and made allegations of corruption against sub-inspector Dhananjay Singh. The official wrote a written complaint alleging that the officer initially demanded Rs 50 lakh to help remove his name from the FIR, but later accepted Rs 2 lakh. But Prateek, who runs the English Language School in Lucknow, informed the ACO and they then planned a trap to catch him red-handed.

ACO Inspector Vinod Kumar conducted a confidential verification confirming that Dhananjay Singh had demanded bribe. The ACO also collected audio evidence of the conversation. The trap team was formed in Lucknow, where two government witnesses Dheeraj Kumar Srivastava and Saurabh Singh from the Public Works department participated in the operations. On October 29, the trap team met Prateek at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomtinagar and gave him Rs 2 lakh in cash. The notes, comprising 400 Rs 500 notes, contain phenolphthalein powder to mark them for forensic tests.
The team reached the Paper Mill Colony police station around 7.30pm. Later, Dhananjay came to the police station and Prateek Gupta and his partner Aamir entered with the money. When they met, Dhananjay was sitting at his desk and Prateek handed him the packet of Rs 500 notes. The officer then asked them to keep the bribe money on file. A moment after ACO officers entered the room and caught him taking the bribe. This entire sequence was captured in a video that has now gone viral. The team recovered the money and conducted a sodium carbonate test on Dhananjay, where his hands turned pink and confirmed his contact with the processed notes.
