Dodgers repeat as World Series champions

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The two best words for any sports fan are “Game 7.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays pushed each other to the brink and delivered an epic finale to the 2025 season that included joy, hope, heartbreak, victory and a reminder that no one person can script baseball.

The Dodgers didn’t take a lead until the most points were counted. The Blue Jays were keeping the key bats in the Dodgers lineup at bay for most of the game. After Miguel Rojas hit the game-tying home run off Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman, Will Smtih hit the go-ahead home run in the 11th inning to give the Dodgers the lead.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the starter in Game 6, pitched 2.2 innings to the Dodgers and closed out the game with a double play for the win.

Los Angeles won the game 5-4 and won back-to-back championships, becoming the first team since the 1999 and 2000 New York Yankees to do so.

The game had everything a fan could want.

Blue Jays second baseman Bo Bichette, who was dealing with a knee injury, hit a three-run home run to the near-infallible Shohei Ohtani. Fans in Toronto nearly blew the roof off as Toronto took the lead.

However, it is clear that tensions between the two teams are high.

Dodgers reliever Justin Wrobleski struck out Andres Gimenez in the bottom of the fourth inning. This caused the benches to be emptied and the referee to warn both teams.

However, the Dodgers began to close the gap. Teoscar Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to score Smith in the fourth inning. Then Tommy Edman hit a sacrifice fly to score Mookie Betts in the sixth inning.

Toronto got a big insurance blow when Gimenez doubled to score Ernie Clement for a 4-2 lead.

It was the eighth and ninth innings that completely changed the game.

Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy hit a single off Trey Yesavage to make it a one-run game. This led the Blue Jays to insert Hoffman into the game a little earlier than they probably wanted. Rojas, who recorded his first hit since Oct. 1 early in the game, hit the game-tying home run off Hoffman.

The Blue Jays didn’t make it easy for the Dodgers.

With a run in the bottom of the ninth quarter, the Blue Jays became threatening. The Dodgers brought in Yamamoto to get Blake Snell out of the situation, but he started loading the bases.

Yamamoto grounded Daulton Varsho to Rojas, who stepped back and fired to catcher Will Smith to force out a home run.

Ernie Clement then approached the plate. He kicked the ball as far as he could and it would go over the head of left winger Enrique Hernandez. Instead, center fielder Andy Pages quickly crushed Hernandez to get out and save the Dodgers.

Blue Jays reliever Seranthony Dominguez was hamstrung in the 10th inning. But like his counterpart, Dominguez enabled Pages to increase the pressure on his own half. Hernandez then pinned Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Dominguez beat the outfielder to first base and was able to close the gap for the final out from the throw.

Smith gave the Dodgers hope in the top of the 11th inning. He hit a long home run to Shane Bieber for the win.

Los Angeles won the World Series by winning the last two games of the series.
