Woman injured after pushed off train near Varkala

A woman suffered serious injuries after she was allegedly pushed from a moving train near Varkala on Saturday.
The incident took place near the Ayanthi overbridge around 8.30 pm when the woman was traveling on the Kerala Express bound for Thiruvananthapuram.
According to official sources, a man named Suresh Kumar, who hails from Panacamoodu in Thiruvananthapuram, has been detained by the police in connection with the incident. It is suspected that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol at the time. He was detained by other passengers and handed over to the Railway Protection Force at Kochuveli railway station.
Preliminary findings showed that the accused might have entered the women’s compartment of the train shortly after it passed Varkala railway station and pushed the woman onto the tracks. However, the police have not yet been able to identify these findings and the circumstances that led to the incident.
The passing MEMU train was stopped and he was rescued, after which he was transferred to Varkala railway station and then to a private hospital. The woman, who sustained serious injuries, was later referred to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital.
