Kim Kardashian may be weeks away from finding out if she passed her law exams, but she says practicing divorce law is not in her future.

The 45-year-old, who plays divorce lawyer Allura Grant in Disney+’s upcoming legal drama All’s Fair, tells the BBC she is “more interested in criminal justice and reform work”, adding: “I don’t think I could really do family law.”

Kardashian has been studying to become a lawyer for the past six years, completing an apprenticeship that eliminates the need for a college degree.

“Going to law school was such a crazy idea, but to me it all makes sense, and I hope I’m forever curious and always want to try new things,” she says.

Kardashian, who has four children with ex-husband Kanye West, also runs fashion and shapewear brand SKIMS and appears with her family in the reality series The Kardashians.

His interest in criminal justice is documented in his reality TV shows, where he advocates for prison reform in the United States and reduced sentences for first-time offenders.

Her recent move towards acting, which is not enough with her already busy schedule, caused surprise, but it did not damage Kardashian’s ambition.

“I guess I don’t live in these boxes of expectations,” he says.

He says he “loves getting constructive criticism” but doesn’t understand why people think “you can’t do something you want to do or are curious about or want to learn.”

Her first real foray into acting was in 2023, when she was cast as a publicist on the 12th season of American Horror Story.

Kardashian received mostly positive reviews for her role, which encouraged her to take on more acting roles.

All’s Fair reunites the star with American Horror Story showrunner Ryan Murphy, who is also behind hit series such as Glee and Pose.

Her latest project, All’s Fair, is a US-set legal drama in which Kardashian plays a divorce lawyer alongside Sarah Paulson, Naomi Watts, Glenn Close, Niecy Nash and Teyana Taylor.

Saying that her priority is to “come prepared” to the set, Kardashian added that she will spend every day “watching and learning from these women,” whom she calls “the best acting coaches in the world.”

He adds that there’s a lot of pressure on those behind the show because they “took the chance to work with me.”

“The last thing I want to do is be unprofessional, be late, or not know my lines,” he says.

All’s Fair is a new all-female legal drama series created by Ryan Murphy for the Disney+ streaming service.

‘I lived with my family’

All’s Fair, which Disney+ says holds the record for the most-watched trailer of all time, is a spectacular dramatization of the lives of lawyers tasked with managing the divorce process of rich and famous female clients.

Kardashian said divorce was “a very relatable topic” after her experience “with my family and my parents growing up.”

Kardashian herself has been divorced three times; She most recently divorced Kanye West in 2022 after eight years of marriage.

Although she said the stories of the women in the series “are not based on anything I’ve experienced,” she said she was “definitely inspired” while practicing law.

Kardashian’s co-star Watts also admits that although the series is sensational, it is a story of “women who feel like they’re done.” [their lives] “At the end of a relationship, everything is over, broken and torn to pieces” is a phrase many people are familiar with.

Nash, who stars as a legal investigator on the series, says divorce is something many people “have in common with other women and celebrities” and thinks the show is so appealing because of its relatability, even if it’s more dramatic than real life.

Paulson adds that although the show’s main theme is divorce, “conflict and resolution are a beautiful part of the show” and that it also “deals with big, important, emotional relationships.”

‘The magic of Ryan Murphy’

Much of the talk on the show was about the power of the all-female cast, which features some of Hollywood’s biggest names.

The actors say it was Ryan Murphy, who has won six Emmy awards, a Tony award and two Grammy awards over a 25-year career in television, film and theater, that convinced them to participate.

“HE [Murphy] He calls and I’m not inclined to say no,” Paulson jokes.

Paulson is perhaps one of Murphy’s greatest collaborators, having starred in nine series of American Horror Story between 2011 and 2021.

Kardashian said the entire cast joined the project “blindly” but it was great to see Murphy’s “magic come to life.”

“Ryan was really intentional about that; he really loves elevating women and making female-led casts, which is incredibly empowering. He wrote it that way, he didn’t see it any other way,” she adds.

Watts agrees, noting that the writer and producer “managed to identify previously unvisited locations.”

“She’s great at creating stories for women of a certain age, and for me, that’s where my life is at.

“These women are all able to do these incredible things together; we’re such a diverse group; we’re different ages and everything, and we support each other throughout the story,” Watts adds.

Murphy was awarded a five-year development deal with Netflix in 2018, reportedly worth $300 million (£228 million).

During this time, he produced two true crime series for the streaming service: Dahmer-Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, as well as the drama series The Politician.

Murphy now has a new deal with Disney+, which includes All’s Fair.

Kardashian serves as an executive producer on the show, along with Close, Paulson, Watts and Nash.

Kardashian’s mother and manager Kris Jenner also gets director credit.
