Fury as David Lammy takes poppy off Labour MP who served in RAF | Politics | News

David Lammy caused widespread outrage after taking a poppy from a decorated RAF war hero to prevent his blushing after he apparently forgot to wear it during PMQs. The incompetent Justice Secretary who replaced Keir Starmer began the session with a somber Remembrance speech.
But it was quickly noticed that he did not bear the traditional symbol, although the overwhelming majority of MPs did so. Moments later, Cabinet colleague Bridget Phillipson presented him with a pin collar.
The metallic poppy came from RAF veteran Labor MP Calvin Bailey.
During his time in the Air Force, Mr. Bailey served in Afghanistan and was awarded the Air Medal by then-President Barack Obama for “meritorious, courageous and distinguished service during coalition operations.”
Answering a question from Tory Bob Blackman, Mr Lammy suggested the mistake was because he had bought a new suit.
“I bought a new suit this morning because my godmother said she would be watching… I am very grateful to the honorable member for Sunderland South for ensuring that I managed to keep my poppies on even though I was wearing a new suit.”
Opening PMQ exchanges at lunch, Mr Lammy said: “This weekend is Remembrance Sunday. We will never forget those who fought to defend our freedom.
“Meeting our troops around the world, whether in Cyprus, the Gulf or Australia, has been one of the greatest honors of my career.”
