The House Democrat, who represents a district that President Donald Trump won in 2024, is not seeking re-election next year.

Rep. Jared Golen, D-Maine., announced his plans in an op-ed for the Bangor Daily News on Wednesday, a day after Democrats’ landslide election victories in Virginia, New Jersey, California and New York City.

“I never liked politics. But I find purpose and meaning in service, and the sailor in me has been able to overcome many of the aspects of politics I dislike by focusing on the good work that Congress can produce with patience and determination,” Golden wrote.

“But after 11 years as a legislator, I am tired of the behavior, the increasing incivility, and the outright obnoxiousness often displayed by our political leaders that are now endemic to some elements of our American society.”
