A company linked to Tory Baroness Michelle Mone owes £39 million in taxes, according to documents filed with its directors on Tuesday.
The amount owed by PPE Medpro is in addition to the £148 million the firm has already been ordered to repay to the government.
PPE Medpro, a consortium spearheaded by Baroness Mone’s husband Doug Barrowman, was ordered to return the larger sum after the Department of Health and Social Care successfully sued over 25 million “defective” gowns supplied during the pandemic.
Despite the company going into administration last month, the government confirmed it was “absolutely not” giving up on efforts to recover the full sum.
PPE Medpro owes £672,774 to unsecured creditors, far below what it owes, according to filings.
The firm was initially ordered to pay the government £123 million plus interest at 8 per cent per annum.
A spokesman for the consortium previously said they were ready to “engage in dialogue” with the Government to reach an agreement.
“On Friday, October 11, it became clear that PPE Medpro’s consortium partners were prepared to enter into discussions with the Government, through administrators, to reach a possible solution,” he said.
“This has been very publicized and the Government has been made aware of it.
“However, very disappointingly, the Government has made no effort to respond or engage in discussions.”
