Tata to Award World Cup-winning Indian Women’s Cricket Team with Sierra

Pune: Tata Motors on Thursday said it will offer the first units of the new Tata Sierra SUV to the champions of the Indian women’s cricket team to celebrate India’s historic victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 for the first time after defeating South Africa.
The new Sierra will be launched on November 25, marking the return of the iconic Sierra nameplate, reimagined for the modern age.
The SUV will likely be offered with 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines, while lower versions will be offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
“The company will present Sierra’s top-of-the-line model to every member of the team, applauding their indomitable spirit and recognizing their tremendous contribution and sacrifice in bringing victory to the country,” he said in a statement.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said: “The Indian Women’s Cricket Team has made the entire country proud with its outstanding performance and remarkable win.”
He said their journey was a true testament to the power of determination and faith, qualities that inspire every Indian.
“We have the privilege of presenting these legends with another legend, Tata Sierra. This is our salute to their spirit and the pride they brought to the nation,” said Chandra.
After the BCCI announced a cash reward of 51 crore rupees to the team, state governments also followed suit by giving awards to players in their states.
While the Maharashtra government announced Rs 2.25 crore each for Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav, players from the state, Himachal Pradesh announced Rs 1 crore for fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur.
India ended its decades-long wait for the Women’s World Cup after defeating South Africa in the final in Navi Mumbai on Sunday (November 2).
With a quick 87 from Shafali Verma and a five-wicket haul from Deepti Sharma, India completed a 52-run victory in front of a packed crowd.
Harmanpreet Kaur became the third Indian captain to win the 50-over World Cup for India after Kapil Dev in 1983 and MS Dhoni in 2011.
