Aadi Bazaar Showcases India’s Tribal Art, Food

Hyderabad: Aadi Bazaar, a ten-day exhibition celebrating India’s tribal art, craft and culture, opened at Indira Mahila Shakti Bazaar on Friday to coincide with the 150th birth anniversary of legendary tribal freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The exhibition includes traditional handicrafts, organic products, food varieties and indigenous art forms from all over the country.
Organized by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) in collaboration with Society for the Eradication of Rural Poverty (SERP), Telangana, the event aims to enhance the economic well-being of tribal communities by connecting artisans directly with buyers and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
More than 25 stalls have been set up by artisans from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and other states. The stalls display hand-woven fabrics, natural products, tribal jewellery, bamboo handicrafts and organic products.
Major attractions include Bheel paintings from Rajasthan. “My grandmother and mother used to paint on mud walls. During the lockdown, I started painting on peacock feathers to keep our tradition alive,” said artisan Mangilal Bheel. Vijayalakshmi from Bhadrachalam showcased her range of organic soaps, shampoos and honey. “We also supply ashram schools. TRIFED has helped us develop our brand and grow our business,” he said.
P. Krishnamurthy of ITDA Bhadrachalam presented Koya cultural art forms carved from teak wood, depicting tribal farming and dance traditions. “This is my first exhibition and this exhibition helps us reach a wider audience,” he said. Two sisters from Hyderabad, Shivani and Sharvani, have showcased the vibrant art of Banjara, continuing their father’s three-decade legacy. “Our art reflects Banjara life and clothing, helping preserve our culture,” they shared.
SERP CEO Divya Devarajan opened the exhibition. TRIFED officials said the stands will remain open until November 16 and more exhibitors will be added during the event.
