How Trump’s tariffs are crushing small businesses

US small businesses reeling under President’s weight donald Trump’s tariffs.

Unlike large retailers, many of which have the resources and scale to mitigate the effects of higher costs, many smaller companies facing larger tariff bills are struggling to survive.

Eunice Byun, CEO of Material Kitchen, a small business that sells kitchenware for the home, said: The complexity of the supply chain has increased tenfold.

“We absolutely failed year over year in terms of our top revenue,” Byun told CNBC.

Anjali Bhargava, owner of Anjali’s Cup, which sells tea concentrate and turmeric blends, said the current economic climate and tariffs are threatening her livelihood.

“It’s really frustrating because I don’t have the resources to stock up,” Bhargava said.

According to the Small Business Administration, there are approximately 36 million small businesses in the United States, accounting for approximately 43% of the US GDP.

So what is the impact of tariffs on small businesses and how can large retailers avoid these effects? CNBC spoke to small business owners to find out.
