NFL asks teams for moment of silence for Cowboys’ Marshawn Kneeland

According to ESPN, the NFL is asking all teams to hold a moment of silence on Sunday for Dallas Cowboys rookie Marshawn Kneeland, who died last week.

The league reportedly sent a memo to all teams on Friday requesting a moment of silence and will be followed by the following message via jumbotrons: “If you or someone you know is in distress or needs emotional support, please call or text 988. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available to help 24/7.”

Kneeland died early Thursday morning, just days after recording his first song. NFL Goal on Monday night.

Kneeland’s agent, Jonathan Perzley, released a lengthy statement remembering the young NFL player for his “spirit” and “kindness.”

“As a hopeful child I watched him struggle West Michigan With dreams of becoming a respected pro for the Dallas Cowboys. Marshawn poured his heart into every action, every practice, and every moment on the field. “To lose someone with his talent, his spirit and his goodness is a pain I cannot express in words.”

According to authorities, DPS troopers attempted a traffic stop around 10:33 p.m. after the driver, later identified as Kneeland, refused to stop. Authorities launched a pursuit, but eventually lost sight of Kneeland’s vehicle and the chase ended.

His car was later found abandoned and authorities found Kneeland dead nearby.

Frisco police, who assisted in the DPS pursuit, released a statement saying the abandoned vehicle was found by troopers “minutes later” and that Kneeland was believed to have fled on foot.

Police said they learned during the search that “Kneeland had expressed suicidal thoughts.”

Kneeland spent his second season with the Cowboys after being selected 56th overall. 2024 NFL Draft. His death came just days after he recorded his first NFL touchdown in a game against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night.
