Watch: MPs pass welfare reform bill after last-minute concessions
MPs voted to cross the Workers Government’s welfare bill on Tuesday, July 1 to 260 with 335 votes in the House of Commons.
The Draft Law, which will see the changes made in the health element of the personal independence (PIP) and universal loan, entered a Crunch vote on Tuesday evening.
Sir Keir Starmer faced the greatest rebellion of his leadership after repeated warnings that the universal loan and personal independence payment of the Labor MPs could carry people to poverty even further.
However, a change to kill the bill was rejected by 328 to 149, and 42 workers voted in favor of deputies.
On Monday, June 30, to persuade Rebel MPs to support changes, the Prime Minister diluted its original welfare plans to minimize the impact on the current plaintiffs.
However, despite the regulations, 39 workers’ deputies supported a new proposal to crush the legislation.
Rachael Maskell, who passed the last change on the table, said, “The whole bill is solved before us,” he said.
Last week, more than 120 workers’ deputies signed a change that would give the opportunity to vote for the proposal to completely reject the welfare reform bill. This change has been withdrawn since then.
