PM lauds Bhutanese leadership for welcome accorded to Buddha’s relics from India

Some of Lord Buddha’s relics in India were consecrated on Saturday at Tashichhodzong, a prominent monastery in Thimpu, considered the center of Bhutan’s highest spiritual and political institutions.
According to the Indian Embassy in Thimphu, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, ministers of the Himalayan kingdom and senior Lopens of the central monastic body joined Indian Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar at the sacrament.
Modi, who will go to Bhutan for a two-day visit on Tuesday, said, “I wholeheartedly thank the people and leaders of Bhutan for the respectful welcome given to the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha from India.”
The Prime Minister said in X that these relics symbolize the eternal message of peace, compassion and harmony.
Modi said Lord Buddha’s teachings are a sacred link between the common spiritual heritage of India and Bhutan. The Indian Embassy in Thimpu, in a post published on According to the Ministry of Culture, the relics were held at Tashichho Dzong Kuenrey Hall in Thimphu from November 8 to 18, marking a moment of profound spiritual unity between India and Bhutan.
Located inside Tashichhodzong, a castle and monastery, Grand Kuenrey is one of the most important halls. Called the ‘Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha’, they are housed in the National Museum in New Delhi.
