Norris wins as Piastri finishes fifth

Sao Paulo: McLaren driver Lando Norris increased his lead in Formula 1 to 24 points by winning the Sao Paulo Grand Prix on Sunday, after his teammate and championship rival Oscar Piastri was penalized for causing a collision and finished fifth.

Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli took a career-best second place, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took third after starting from pitlane; It was another astonishing performance from the four-time world champion, who won from 17th on the grid last year.

Australian Piastri, who was fourth at Interlagos with sprint winner Norris on pole, was forced to serve a 10-second penalty for an early clash with Antonelli, which forced Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc out of the race.

George Russell finished fourth for Mercedes, which consolidated second place overall in the constructors’ championship won by McLaren.
