Omni bus owners stop operations to Kerala, Karnataka; cite inability to pay road tax

All Omni Bus Owners Association Tamil Nadu on Sunday announced that they have stopped buses to Kerala and Karnataka as they cannot afford the cost of paying road tax in these states.
Association president A. Anbalagan said that around 800 buses travel to and from these states daily and around 25,000 passengers are affected by this movement.
He added that Kerala multi-way bus operators have also decided to stop their operations in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka due to their inability to pay road tax.
Omni bus operators pay road tax and all-India permit fees every 90 days and the amount doubles when they have to pay road tax in other states as well, he added.
