Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh’s touching reason for wearing three poppies on Remembrance Sunday with Queen Camilla

The Duchess of Edinburgh donated three poppies as she made an emotional appearance at this morning’s Remembrance Sunday event in central London.
Sophie, 60, who was accompanied by the Duke of Kent on one of the Foreign Office balconies, was seen visibly shedding tears as King Charles paid a two-minute silence to the nation at the Cenotaph in Whitehall.
Prince Edward’s wife is dressed in traditional black, matching a dark coat with her hat and also opting for another standard accessory, a poppy flower.
However, while most people chose to wear a one-piece, the Duchess chose to wear a three-piece dress that was attached to the left side of her coat.
It is believed that each of the flowers represents one of the main branches of the military.
These include the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and British Army.
Meanwhile, Queen Camila, 78, and the Princess of Wales, 43, stood together on the central balcony of the Foreign Office and watched the hearing.
Like Sophie, the Queen chose to wear three poppies pinned to her coat.

However, Kate wore only one poppy, unlike previous years where she wore three flowers.
However, the poppy was accompanied by a brooch, and although it is not confirmed, it is believed that he paid tribute to his deceased ancestors with this badge.
Since 2015, the royal has changed the number she wears, opting for a three-year period.
According to reports, in 2019, she wore the Codebreakers pin, which was released that year to honor those working in signals intelligence, as a tribute to her grandmother, Valerie Glassborow.
Although Buckingham Palace has never confirmed why members of the Royal Family wear more than one poppy, there are a few theories.
First, there is the theory that they represent different branches of the military.
The late Queen Elizabeth II Elizabeth wore five poppies, each of which was thought to pay tribute to a branch of the armed forces.
Although never confirmed by the Palace, these were thought to be the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Civil Defense and Women’s Services.

The second theory is that multiple poppies are worn to honor multiple family members who fought and died in the war.
Since Kate’s great-grandmother had three brothers killed during the First World War, it was long thought that each of the three poppies honored one of them.
Others have suggested that wearing three poppies could represent past, present and future generations affected by the war.
Another theory is that the royal family wore more than one poppy because the bodice was much more visible than a single flower.
As Kate stands on the balcony paying her respects to those killed in the conflict, she may want to make sure the poppies are visible.
As for why the royal family wears their poppies on their left side, it’s generally thought that this is because it positions them closer to the heart.
With this year’s Armistice Day marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, ceremonies were held across the country to commemorate the fallen.
Nearly 10,000 armed forces veterans and around 20 Second World War veterans attended the Royal British Legion’s march in Whitehall.
Senior politicians and members of the Royal Family left after laying wreaths so thousands of veterans could begin the march.
Before the two-minute silence at 11am, military bands performed songs including Rule Britannia as crowds watched throughout Whitehall.
