18 people sent to the hospital after mobile lounge crashes at Washington D.C.-area airport

DULLES, Va. (AP) — A vehicle carrying passengers at a Washington, D.C.-area airport crashed into the building’s scaffolding Monday afternoon, sending 18 people to the hospital, according to officials.
In the statement made by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, it was stated that the mobile lounge carrying passengers between the terminal and the plane hit the pier at an angle while approaching the building at Washington Dulles International Airport at around 16.30. The dock is where the vehicle stops to allow people to enter the concourse.
According to the information provided by the authorities, it was stated that the injured passengers were not life-threatening and were taken to the hospital by the fire brigade.

“The airport is open and operating normally,” the official said.
According to the airport’s website, Dulles has 19 mobile lounges that can carry up to 102 passengers. They are approximately 54 feet (16.5 meters) long and 16 feet (4.9 meters) wide.
