Teen to be sentenced over stabbing of grandmother Vyleen White; Victoria follows Queensland with ‘adult time for violent crime’ laws; Findings missed in 38 patients in hospital imaging scandal
Dozens of patients are being recalled for follow-up treatment at Caboolture Hospital after it emerged their medical scans were not properly reviewed.
A comprehensive review of medical scans at Caboolture Hospital’s outpatient clinic found 38 patients failed to receive follow-up care.
The hospital was first alerted to the problem in early September when a patient died without knowing he had advanced cancer.
The patient had scans at Caboolture Hospital Specialist Outpatient Clinic, but the images were not reviewed for five weeks.
The hospital initially acknowledged that as many as 9,000 patients may have been affected by similar errors.

But in an update Tuesday, the hospital acknowledged that 21,491 scans needed to be reviewed.
Approximately 14,000 scans were deemed “high priority.”
“All 21,491 scans were reviewed and cleared by a team of experts, and all affected patients were contacted,” Metro North Health said in a statement.
It was stated that 38 patients were contacted for follow-up care after their scans were reviewed.
Metro North Health did not disclose details about the medical conditions or medical conditions of the 38 patients, citing patient privacy and confidentiality.
However, the hospital was reviewing scans of surgical, cardiac, respiratory and pediatric patients who were referred to the Specialist Outpatient Department and underwent imaging between April 1, 2023 and September 4, 2025.
Metro North Health apologized to affected patients and said Caboolture Hospital had since “strengthened its processes to ensure a rigorous approach to medical imaging review is supported by all clinicians.”
Health Minister Tim Nicholls said no further deaths were detected in the investigation.
