Grand jury indicts Texas resident for allegedly threatening Louisville coach

A grand jury indicted Texas resident Brian S. Mandel for alleged threats against Louisville football head coach Jeff Brohm, his family, quarterback Miller Moss and others.

Louisville Courier MagazineCiting court documents, Mandel was charged with multiple counts of second-degree terroristic threats and a separate count of attempted extortion.

A Jefferson Circuit Court judge issued a warrant for Mandel’s arrest. He had not been taken into custody as of Tuesday evening. Court records show his bond was set at $100,000.

The alleged extortion charge likely stems from Mandel attempting to “obtain property valued at $10,000 or more” from Moss by “threatening bodily injury,” according to court filings.

Louisville offensive coordinator Brian Brohm, a relative of Jeff, was among those Mandel allegedly targeted. The indictment stated that the threats were made between 8 and 9 November.

An unnamed university police officer is listed as the complaining witness. The motive for the alleged crimes remains unclear. No detailed explanation was included in the indictment.

A spokesperson for the athletics department said the university will remain in contact with officials throughout the investigation. “We commend law enforcement for their swift and decisive action in addressing this matter,” the media relations department said in a statement. It was said. “Threats of violence have no place in our society or in sport and we will continue to work closely with authorities to ensure a safe environment for everyone.”

Pending arraignment, Mandel is scheduled to appear in court on November 17.
