Rubio made the remarks while responding to a media query about India declaring the Delhi blast as a “terrorist incident” on Monday.
“The Indians need to be praised. They were very measured, cautious and very professional in conducting this investigation. The investigation is ongoing. It was clearly a terrorist attack. It was a car full of highly explosive materials and it detonated and killed a large number of people.”
He added: “I think they did a very good job of conducting the investigation, and when they find the facts, I think they will release those facts.”
The US Secretary of State shared that he spoke to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar regarding the blast. Rubio said the United States had offered assistance, but India was “very capable” of conducting the investigation and did not need assistance.
“We recognize the potential it has and we talked about it a little bit today; it needs to have broader potential. We’ll wait to see what the investigation uncovers. We’ve offered assistance but I think they’re very capable of these investigations. They don’t need our help and they’re doing a good job,” he said.
