Ley avoids leadership challenge, formally dumps net zero target; Fishing boats at centre of controversial Border Force operation
Independent MP Dai Le expressed his sympathy for Opposition Leader Sussan Ley this morning, describing her as “tough” to survive the “decimation” the Liberal Party has suffered in recent weeks.
“He’s strong. He’s survived. He’s a formidable Opposition Leader and the Liberal Party has been decimated in a way and it takes a lot of work to rebuild a party and people need to give him a chance,” Le told Nine’s. Today show sooner.

The independent MP said it was important for the Liberals to take the opportunity to think about how they could work towards being a “good” and “united” opposition.
“I think the whole party really needs to look at how you want to be a really good opposition and you need to be united to continue the fight… I feel like the opposition caucuses are trying to hold the government accountable, but I think [we need to] “There is strong opposition to hold the government accountable.”
Ley appears to have escaped the leadership challenge for now after the Liberal Party yesterday officially announced plans to eliminate Australia’s legal net-zero emissions by the 2050 climate target.
