UK weather: Storm Claudia to clear with snow on the way this week

It’s still a few days away and next week’s details will likely change.

However, showers (a mix of rain, sleet and snow) are currently likely to occur mainly over the moors of Northern Scotland, Northern Ireland, the North Yorkshire Moors, West Wales and South West England.

Mainly areas exposed to cold north wind.

The cold Atlantic weather system arriving on Tuesday could bring some snow inland over Scotland and northern England. This may extend to the Midlands and south-east England for a short time on Wednesday morning.

It’s too early to tell whether and where the snow will settle.

It is unlikely to be as bad as the snow and ice that closed hundreds of schools and dumped 12cm of snow in Nottingham this time last year.

In recent years the Met Office has observed a decrease in the frequency, duration and intensity of cold weather, clearly linked to climate change. According to the latest information Status of the Climate Report, externalAir and ground frosts have decreased by about a quarter since the 1980s.
