Liz Truss backs Trump’s plan to sue BBC for editing speech footage

Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss is backing President Donald Trump’s plan to sue the BBC, saying “they lied, they cheated, they doctored footage” as the BBC faces an editing scandal.
The BBC has been accused of combining two different parts of Trump’s speech on January 6, 2021. They removed the call for a “peaceful and patriotic” march and instead added the phrase “fight like hell” in the address about an hour later.
“There are a lot of people in the UK who support President Trump and want him to sue the BBC because they are a big problem,” Truss said on “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Saturday.

Now Trump has said he feels “obliged” to sue the British broadcaster for tampering with the footage. He threatened to sue the BBC for $1 billion in damages.

A BBC spokesman said the company’s chief executive, Samir Shah, “also sent a personal letter to the White House, making it clear to President Trump that he and the company were sorry about the editing of the president’s speech on the program on January 6, 2021.”
However, the channel rejects Trump’s calls for compensation.
Despite his apology, Truss believes the president should still take legal action.

“I want to see him move forward with this case because I don’t think they’re being held accountable,” Truss said.
“I would bet they continue to print, broadcast and publish fake news, not just about the president, but also about the MAGA movement, about the changes that are happening in the world, that many British publics want to see here in Britain.”

Truss accused the BBC of being politically biased against conservatives in both the UK and the US. He also called for the network to be “defunded”.
TRUMP ANNOUNCED THAT HE WAS SUITING THE BBC FOR UP TO 5 BILLION DOLLARS, OVER THE SPEECH DOCUMENTARY HELD ON JANUARY 6.
“The BBC was the paragon of journalism around the world. It was respected. It has now become a laughing stock and needs to be put out of its misery,” he said.
Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett shared Truss’ view, saying the apology was not enough and demanded compensation from the BBC.
“This was clearly defamatory under British law. The BBC knows this, so the channel apologized and removed the story,” Jarrett said.

Trump said he plans to discuss the issue with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer this weekend before making his case.
