Eubank vs Benn 2: Tony Bellew, Carl Frampton, 50 Cent & Oscar De La Hoya react to Conor Benn’s win over Chris Eubank Jr

Chris Eubank Jr.’s rematch defeat against Conor Benn could be time for him to retire, according to former boxers Carl Frampton and Barry Jones.

Eubank, 36, lost unanimously to Benn at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, seven months after Eubank’s victory in the first meeting between the pair.

All three judges scored the fight convincingly in Benn’s favour; Months after beating him, Eubank struggled to even challenge his opponent.

Retired world champion Frampton told DAZN: “It was a great performance from Conor, but this might be time to call it a day for Chris.”

“I’m not trying to be harsh, I’m just being honest.”

Former WBO super featherweight champion Jones echoed Frampton’s thoughts, noting Eubank’s struggles throughout the fight.

“I think this should be the end for Chris,” DAZN’s Jones said.

“The first lap was evidence that it was flat. It could be the weight, it could be the wear and tear, I think it’s the latter.”

“We should have given all the credit to Conor Benn but there were opportunities for Chris to pull the trigger.

“He didn’t throw any punches in the first round. He was pretty lethargic.”

Lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson, who has won multiple weight belts, said Eubank had clearly “gone down in weight.”

Eubank fought at middleweight for most of his recent career but was restricted by a rehydration clause that prevented him from lifting more than 10lbs on fight day.

Boxing legend and promoter Oscar De La Hoya also defended Eubank’s performance.

“Let me give you a little tutorial on boxing,” he said in X.

“Eubank didn’t have a chance due to his weight loss.”

Trainer and former boxer Paul Smith said before the fight he felt it was a step too far for Eubank but praised the Briton for a “great career”.

“People who always disliked or hated him ended up liking him. Just like his father,” she added.
