Threat to homes: Bushfire watch and act in place for Shire of Collie

Residents in the Shire of Collie are being warned to prepare to leave the area as an out-of-control bushfire threatens lives and homes.
A bushfire watch and action is in place for people around Piavnini Road, west of Lake Stockton, including at Collie Motorcross Raceway at Shotts in the Shire of Collie.
Residents planning to leave the area in the event of a bushfire were urged to leave immediately.
They should keep doors and windows closed and evaporative air conditioners turned off, but keep water flowing through the system to prevent embers from entering their home.
Authorities say the cause of the incident, which was reported at 11:22 a.m., is suspicious.
The Parks and Wildlife Service is managing the fire as it moves northwest.
Drivers were asked to stay away from the area, reduce their speed and drive carefully. Some roads may be closed.
Residents near Stockton Lake recreation area in Shotts have been told to monitor conditions.
While there is no danger to life or home safety in that area, there is heavy smoke.
